Agricultural Division

The Agricultrual División is in charge of getting raw material for the plant. This supply arrives from two sources: self-produced crops and those from outside persons.

AZUCARERA PARAGUAYA cultivates 21,000 hectares of sugarcane. Of this area, the firm owns 11,000 hectares while the remaining 10,000 hectares belong to other producers.

The planting varieties come from the Experimental Station of the Canaviera Technological Center and the Federal University of Sao Carlos. Both sites lie in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The most important varieties are RB 72-454, RB 85-5536, RB 92-8064, RB 85-5453, RB 86-7515, CTC 1, CTC 2, CTC4, CTC 5, SP 81-3250, SP 80-1842.

The members of the Organización de Cañicultores Azucarera Paraguaya (Paraguayan Organization of Sugarcane Producers) receive sugarcane from producers located in about 25 zones covering the Departments of Guaira, Paraguari, Caaguazu, and Cordillera.

Sugarcane producers group themselves in commissions within the sugarcane zones, and manage themselves through elected boards that further consolidate their activities in the Coordinadora de Comisiones Cañeras (a managing entity for Sugarcane Commissions).

Organic Production

The Organic Production of sugarcane is carried out without the use of chemical products. The management of such production gives utmost importance to the use of natural fertilizers, manual care, ecological conservation, the use of organic fertilizers, permanent training and environmental awareness.

Before a harvest, all production is certified by international organizations so as to verify that cultivation had followed correct organic practices. There is a department with exclusive responsibility to supervise the organic cultivation system. In such department, the firm implements its own production standards which incorporate the requirements of the verification system.

In the soil, the replacement of nutrients and organic matter takes a significant role in organic management. The alternatives are the use of animal manure from chickens and cows and, lately, vinasse and compost coming from the biotransformation of organic material present in vegetable, agricultural and industrial residues into simplier, stabler molecules. These are formed through the action of microorganisms such as fungui, bacteria and yeast –excellent biofertilizers for sugarcane.
